Botulinum Toxin and treating Hyperhidrosis

The use of Botulinum Toxin extends beyond the treatment of wrinkles and reducing expression lines. A skilled knowledgeable practitioner can apply the science and skill to create lifts to the jowl area, invert the lip, address a rotating chin and improve the platysmal bands of the neck.  Indeed, there are many additional therapeutic uses of Botulinum Toxin.  ‘One such use is to improve the quality of life for sufferers of Hyperhidrosis’

What is Hyperhidrosis?

Hyperhidrosis is defined as the production of excess sweat beyond that which is required to return elevated body temperature to normal.

The whole face and body can be affected by hyperhidrosis or it can be localised.  Sweating is controlled by the brain, which sends signals along nerves to the small sweat glands in the skin.  Increased sweating is also a normal response to emotions such as anxiety.

Both genders are affected by Hyperhidrosis and it can cause embarrassment and awkwardness in social situations.

This Hyperhidrosis course will cover the following:

  • What is Hyperhidrosis?
  • Pathophysiology
  • Clinical Symptoms and Evaluation
  • Diagnosis
  • Treatment options
  • Hyperhidrosis guidelines
  • Contraindications
  • Complications and associated risk
  • Consultation
  • Minors Test (Iodine Test)
  • Botulinum Toxin Dilution
  • Injection Technique
  • Post Treatment and aftercare

The most common areas for patients to experience Hyperhidrosis are:

  • The palms of the hands (Palmer Hyperhidrosis)
  • Soles of the feet (Planter Hyperhidrosis)
  • The armpits (Axillary Hyperhidrosis)
  • Also: the face, head, groin and back.

Here at Facethetics, we will train you to treat Axillary Hyperhidrosis and gain an understanding of Palmer and Planter Hyperhidrosis.  In order to treat Hyperhidrosis you need to be able to take an accurate history and match it to the presenting symptoms. We are only treating primary hyperhidrosis.

The training session will also cover and discuss on treatment options available and research on new current treatments.

Practical Injecting

The injection procedure to treat underarm sweating requires relatively little time and for your patient, there are no demands on any restrictions in work or leisure activity (aside from refraining from intensive exercise or the use of a sauna on the day of the injections).

During the procedure, a very fine needle is used to inject tiny amounts of Botulinum Toxin just under the skin intermittently throughout the area of excessive sweating.  Multiple injections are given based on the assessment of the area that needs to be treated.

There are many people who will require your expertise and practitioner trust.

According to The International Hyperhidrosis Society (IHHS) an estimated 176 million affected children, teens and adults suffer with Hyperhidrosis worldwide, that is 5% of the world’s population.

Your patient will be one of many who may spend hours each day dealing with sweat - changing clothes, "freshening up", wiping, placing napkins or pads under their arms, bathing, and hiding under dark-coloured, bulky clothes.  You can make a difference!

This course can be combined with Lower Face Botulinum Toxin training.  Click here for more information.
